Knees

Knee problems and knee pain are generally divided into those which come about by:

  • Trauma or injury, such as a fractured or dislocated bone, torn ligament or cartilage overload injuries, usually related to excessive load through the joint, muscle or tendon. This type of injury usually comes on gradually.
  • Wear and tear or degeneration, such as osteoarthritis
  • Disease such as infection or other forms of arthritis.

Before treatment can start, a thorough assessment from a experienced physiotherapist, sports doctor, or GP is necessary. Some patients will require some investigation with x-ray, ultrasound or MRI. The sports doctor can arrange this.  Others will benefit from a more functional assessment, which looks more closely at contributing mechanical or functional factors.  It may be necessary to look at the way you walk, run, jump and land to get this information. The sports physiotherapists are experts in this form of assessment.

Once this is done, we will sit down with you and discuss all options. You may need to be referred to an orthopaedic specialist or advised to work with your physiotherapist.

If appropriate, our sports physiotherapists will outline a rehabilitation plan for your knee injury and support you every step of the way back to sport, work or the garden.  For further information, please contact our reception on 8271 8622 or make an Assessment Consultation with our physiotherapists via the ‘Book an Appointment’ portal on this website.
